Out of Nothing into a New Creation
2008 - Pyramid
This work is born from ideas about what constitutes as 'home'. By creating a geometrically shaped space from entirely found wood I aim to comment on what necessity is in regard to comfort and living space. I made this as a paired back dwelling out of a need to think about the shell and physical structures of shelters and dwellings.
My practice focuses on reusing materials that have been discarded and are fragments of former objects. All materials that comprise this work have been found and collected around Plymouth and were previously exhibited as Bed, 2008. These fragments of discarded and disused objects are joined in making a new, a whole.
Feathers were used as a poetic hint at comfort that would make the dwelling more appealing and function similarly to a home, white, sterile yet soft feathers lift the structure to be considered as an inviting living place.
